In early 2003 Mark left project leadership, and since then the project has been lead through the cooperation of the active developers (currently three individuals). He released version 3.0 featuring gpsycho, a new psychoacoustic model he developed. He can be considered the initiator of the LAME project in its current form. Mark Taylor became a leader and started pursuing better quality in addition to increased speed. Mike Cheng eventually left leadership and started working on tooLame, an MP2 encoder. The project quickly became a team project.

That branch (a patch against the reference sources) became Lame 2.0, and with Lame 3.81 all of dist10 code was replaced, making LAME no more only a patch. His goal was only to speed up the dist10 sources and leave its quality untouched. After some quality concerns raised by others, he decided to start from scratch based on the dist10 sources.

Mike Cheng started it as a patch against the 8hz-MP3 encoder sources. LAME development started around mid-1998.

All software from the LAME project can be found in the project's file area. For binaries and GUI based programs which can use LAME (or include fully licensed versions of LAME), check the LAME related links. LAME is only distribued in source code form. V0.9.1: Disabled trial mechanism, universal 36/64bit build for macOS, updated logo (wise monkey).LAME is a high quality MPEG Audio Layer III (MP3) encoder licensed under the LGPL.

V0.9.2: Now using JUCE dsp::Convolution object for room IR convolution (remove zipper noise on source position update with STUDIO enabled), fixed variable buffer length crash (DAW's buffer length is only an upper bound according to VST specification), changed default distance exponent from 2 to 1, inverted positions of low, mid, and high EQ knobs in GUI, fixed armed AP not updated from DAW interaction with 3D GUI. V0.9.2b: Using JUCE dsp::Convolution for main HRIR convolution, reduced plugin loading time (neighbor search tree initialization in MySofa library), fixed error introduced in v0.9.2 in externalization booster (Ambisonic order no taken into account).

FL Studio support (and all other DAWs with ever varying input buffer size). V0.9.2c: Fixed critical issue on binaural convolution in v0.9.2b. * previously used only in the main binaural encoder. Updated HRIR normalization (from peak to energy). Using JUCE dsp::Convolution for room reverb and Ambisonic decoder*.

V0.9.4: Added knob to control IR crossfade duration (tradeoff between responsiveness when moving audio sources and zipper noise free rendering). Support “run FX when stopped” when DAW not in playback mode. V0.9.4b: Updated to JUCE v6.0.4, using the new convolver implementation. V0.9.4c: Replaced partitioned convolution by classic convolution, reducing CPU usage. relaunch your DAW, eventually re-scan for plugins.hit the "return" key, provide your admin password, hit "return" again.drag and drop the Anaglyph.vst (or the format you're planning to use) into the terminal window.Using Anaglyph with MacOS Catalina raises an "unidentified developer" error Open the terminal.app application and: The VST3 GUI doesn't scale correctly in Reaper If you need 88.2kHz or 96kHz support, download the extra_sampling_rates.zip folder and copy its content in the resource folder of the plugin ( anaglyph_plugin_data folder on Windows, within Anaglyph.vst on MacOS).
